Today’s New Covenant nugget comes from Colossians 3:1-2, 15

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

The Word of God instructs us to set our minds and our affections on heavenly things and not on things on earth… to be spiritually minded, not carnally minded! Friends, we have been called to walk and live in a spiritual dimension. We are here on earth, but the Lord has directed us to put our affections and our minds on ‘spiritual things’.

What is it to be spiritually minded?

Being spiritually minded is focussing on what God is doing, what the Word says, what our covenant in Christ is, what the Holy Spirit is showing us and where He is leading us.

Don’t let the only time you are ‘being spiritual’ be in church. Don’t let being in church on Sundays, be the only time in the week that you become ‘spiritually minded.’ There are some people that are very spiritual in the service but the minute they walk out the door of the service, they don’t talk about Jesus, they don’t talk about the Word and they process things they are dealing with, through the mind of the flesh and reasoning in the light of circumstances

The Lord has called us to be spiritually minded 24/7 - He has called us to put on the mind of Christ and by faith to fine tune our thoughts to His will, His Word, His leading and to His small still voice.

You can stay in that place and you can function from that place continually. Someone had told me this week that my conversations with them are always spiritual – I took it as a complement - I would rather live spiritually minded than flesh minded. Staying spiritually minded keeps me at a place where it’s easy to see the hand of God in every situation and it keeps me in faith - ready to speak the Word of faith over my day.

Like most people, I have had seasons where it’s so easy to slip into natural thinking and seeing your life through your own eyes, but the Lord reminds us in this verse, to set our affections on things above - remind yourself how much He loves you and how He has given you His Word and His authority and His ability to live life full and victorious.

Colossians 3:15 reminds us to let His peace rule… to let His peace dominate our thinking. How can you be carnally minded when you are letting His peace dominate your thoughts? When you set your thoughts on Him and think His thoughts and speak His Word, it’s so easy to just enter into His perfect peace and to allow His perfect peace to rule and reign and have full control.

There is no worry where His peace is, no fear, no stressing, no concerns, no anxiety issues… just His perfect peace that passes all understanding – His supernatural peace bypasses the carnal way of thinking and brings you into a peace that does not even make sense… that’s because it’s a peace that He gives and because Jesus is our Prince of Peace!

Being in His peace is a place of allowing ourselves to be fully immersed in His presence. When you walk in His peace, instead of focusing on the anxieties and worries and business of life you begin to think about His goodness, His love, His kindness and His grace. Isn’t that amazing… in the carnal realm of thinking, you only think about yourself, circumstances and what YOU can or cannot do about things… but when you become spiritually minded and allow His peace to fill you and put your mind and affections on Him, you begin to think of how awesome God is and what Jesus did on the cross for you 2000 years ago.

The abundance of His peace in our lives causes us to overflow with thankfulness and words of the goodness of God. As we set our affections on Him, He will bring the infilling of peace and the overflow of thankfulness - Selah

Blessings on you, Esther
