Today’s word is from 2 Corinthians 1:8 (NLT)
“…We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it.”
There are things that can crush and overwhelm a believer beyond their ability to endure. Friends, life can get very challenging!
Paul goes on to say… “In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, Who raises the dead. And He did rescue us from mortal danger, and He will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in Him, and He will continue to rescue us.” (2 Corinthians 1:9-10)
People can be mean, relentless, unforgiving and judgmental, regardless of how good that you have been to them.
Circumstances can become beyond a persons ability to cope with, regardless of how hard you have worked and regardless of what you have done to insure success. No matter how talented you are, how smart you are and how much faith you have… sometimes the wheels just come off and it seems like the worst happens.
These are times to put our trust in the Lord, to count it all joy and to be led by the Spirit.
As the apostle Paul faces the pain his first words are… “We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure.”
Then he pushes beyond the pain and declares by faith… “We have stopped relying on ourselves and have learned to rely only on God, Who raises the dead. And He did rescue us from mortal danger, and He will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in Him, and He will continue to rescue us.”
Then in a little later he changes his confession… “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)
Paul’s confession began in the flesh, but ended in the Spirit!
Sometimes pain may cause a believer to say some unscriptural things in the flesh, but whatever you do, do not stay in the flesh, encourage yourself in the Lord and then. By grace, through faith begin to make the confession of faith! Do not continue in the flesh, turn your eyes upon Jesus, receive grace and mercy at His throne of grace, and then begin to speak life!
In Christ, every battle is a victory in the making, every test becomes a testimony, and every trial becomes a triumph!
In Christ things don’t break you, they make you… tombstones become stepping-stones and fire becomes fuel. In Christ all things work together for your good and for the good of those you are called to. As you overcome by relying on Jesus, an anointing is imparted into you to minister to others that face what you have conquered.
As you overcome poverty, as you overcome illness, as you overcome fear and depression…The Lord imparts an anointing to destroy poverty, sickness, fear and depression in others. In Christ a SETBACK becomes a COMEBACK, present PAIN becomes future POWER and present MISERY becomes your future MINISTRY!
