Today's word is from Matthew 22:14
“For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Jesus had just shared a parable to His followers (Matthew 22:1-13) before He made this profound statement, “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
The parable is a story that depicts a wedding. The wedding is an illustration of how the Lord has invited all of humanity to be saved and to be the bride of Christ, but how that in spite of the invitation some do not and will not respond. The parable demonstrates how the Lord choses and selects those who will be saved.
Firstly, it is very clear that every person is called or invited.
(Matthew 22:3,9-10 “And sent out His servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. - Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.)
Secondly the invitation is both to the good and the bad.
(Vs 10, “So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good.”)
There are 3 qualifications to go from being called to being chosen…
*Note... Jesus has pre-qualified us and has fully paid the price. Not one person can do anything to be more qualified other than to except salvation as a free gift!
1. You need to be invited
All are invited whether good or bad [whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.]
2. You need to respond to the invitation
The ones who were invited, but did not respond, or show up were disqualified by their own choice not to be included.
3. You need to receive the free gift of salvation
In the parable, one of the guests did not put on his wedding garment. (Vs 11-13) The wedding garment is a robe of righteousness freely given to each believer by Jesus. (Revelation 19:7-9 “Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.”)
In short, the Lord calls everybody, and has forgiven and fully paid the price for Everybody’s sin, good and bad... and as those who are called respond to the call and except the free gift of salvation and righteousness, they go from being called to being chosen.
Father, Thank You that You called me, thank You for giving me a robe of RIGHTEOUSNESS, thank You for choosing me and making me worthy to be Your child through Jesus. I am a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, and I proclaim the praises of Him who called me out of darkness
